Sampak GusUran is a poem orchestra. They call their group as ‘poem orchestra’ because since the beginning they interpret and orchestrated Anis Sholeh Ba’asyin’s poem into musical composition. This is their way to bring poem more closer to people.
By their ‘poem orchestra’ they wish to voice their concern about social, culture, spiritual, environmental and human problem in our country and also in the world. They not only play music or sing a song, but first of all they try with their own way to sent a message about love, peace, brotherhood and justice; against all destructive, oppressed and dehumanize powers who rules what we called as ‘modern world’.
The name ‘Sampak’ they took from ‘gamelan’ music rhythm type in Javanese puppets performance called ‘wayang”, it usually played to accompany war scene on Wayang performance. The word GusUran, in fact can be read as an informal form writing from gusuran word, which in Indonesian vocabulary mean ‘peripheral’. Or, can also, ‘Uran’ word read as plural form of word ‘uro-uro’ or croon in Javanese vocabulary.
In music, they try more or less dynamic translate and permeate the spirit and also composition of ethnical and tradition music -especially from Indonesia- and cut fine it with new musical mosaic growing in present day.
